9024: Dual Enrollment Crowder College Educational Psychology (EDUC-231)

Educational Psychology is designed to help students connect theories and principles of educational psychology to teaching, learning, and assessment in P–12 educational settings. Educational Curriculum for Early Childhood Programs focuses on the principles and practices of designing, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum for early childhood settings. The goals of this course are to introduce students to the appreciation and assessment of young children’s thinking, to provide opportunities for students to develop competencies in promoting the learning and overall development of young children both individually and in group settings, and to increase levels of professionalism as early childhood educators. Students will explore how the curriculum supports the physical, social-emotional, cognitive, and language development of young children from birth through age eight. Emphasis is placed on developmentally appropriate practice, play-based learning, and the integration of literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, and social studies into meaningful learning experiences. Students will examine state and national early childhood standards, engage in lesson and learning-center design, and use observation and assessment to guide instructional decisions. The course also addresses culturally responsive teaching, inclusive practices for diverse learners, and effective partnerships with families to support children’s growth and readiness for future learning.

Students will explore a variety of software applications, digital programs, presentation technologies, and telecommunication tools used to support teaching and learning. Emphasis is placed on using technology to enhance instruction, engage learners, and support diverse learning needs across content areas. The course also examines the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in education, including digital citizenship, accessibility, data privacy, and responsible technology use. Students will develop practical skills and strategies for selecting, implementing, and evaluating educational technologies to support student learning and instructional goals.

9027: Dual Enrollment Crowder College Exceptional Learners (EDUC-240)

This survey course provides an introduction to exceptional learners and their education in grades P–12. Students will develop the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to work effectively with exceptional learners in both general education and special education settings. Course content includes the historical foundations of special education; legal, ethical, state, and federal guidelines; and the characteristics and needs of students with disabilities and other exceptionalities. Students will examine instructional methods and strategies, classroom accommodations and modifications, school and community resources, and the use of assistive and adaptive technologies to support learning and inclusion. Emphasis is placed on understanding diverse learning needs and promoting equitable, supportive educational environments for all students.

9028: Dual Enrollment Crowder College Educational Foundations (ECD-101)

This course provides an introduction to early childhood education with an emphasis on the historical foundations and major theories that influence contemporary practice. Students will examine the development of early childhood education over time and explore how foundational theories guide instructional decisions, learning environments, and interactions with young children. 9029: Dual Enrollment Crowder College Teaching Profession (EDUC-251)

This course provides an introduction to the teaching profession and includes a minimum of thirty (30) hours of supervised field experience in accredited P–12 classroom settings. Field experiences provide students with opportunities to observe, assist, and contribute to teaching and learning in real school environments. Through observation, guided participation, and reflective practice, preservice teachers connect firsthand classroom experiences with an emerging professional knowledge base. The course emphasizes understanding diverse educational settings, instructional practices, and the roles and responsibilities of teachers. Additionally, students will examine requirements for teacher preparation and certification, supporting informed decision-making about whether a career in teaching is an appropriate professional goal.

9030: Education Work Based Learning

Course Credit 1

Education Work Based Learning provides students with authentic, hands-on experience in educational settings through a structured work-based learning model. Designed for students participating in the Cadet Teaching Program, the course allows students to apply instructional and classroom management concepts in real-world learning environments under the guidance of licensed educators.

Students gain experience assisting teachers with classroom activities, supporting student learning, observing instructional strategies, and engaging in professional responsibilities associated with the teaching profession. Emphasis is placed on professionalism, communication, ethical behavior, and reflective practice.

Throughout the course, students develop employability skills such as collaboration, time management, adaptability, and leadership while exploring careers in education. Education Work Based Learning supports students interested in becoming educators by providing meaningful classroom experience and preparing them for postsecondary study in education or related fields.

9931: Dual Credit Crowder College Health and Safety (ECD-103)

This course examines health and safety practices recommended for early childhood and childcare settings, with an emphasis on promoting the well-being of young children. Students will study common childhood illnesses, communicable diseases, and health concerns, along with prevention strategies and safe learning environments. The course also explores principles of nutrition, growth, and development, including guidelines for healthy meals and developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s physical development. Students are required to successfully complete First Aid and CPR certification for adults, children, and infants by the end of the semester.
