This course provides an introduction to early childhood education with an emphasis on the historical foundations and major theories that influence contemporary practice. Students will examine the development of early childhood education over time and explore how foundational theories guide instructional decisions, learning environments, and interactions with young children. The course also addresses the importance of building effective relationships with parents, families, and other professionals in the community, as well as strategies for advocating for young children and their families. Emphasis is placed on understanding the role of early childhood educators as professionals, collaborators, and advocates within diverse educational and community settings.

Students choosing to take the course for college credit must apply to Crowder College and enroll in the course through both Crowder College and the high school. Students are financially responsible for any course fees incurred for taking the course for college credit.
