This course provides intensive, targeted literacy instruction for junior high students who require the highest level of reading support based on performance on state and/or local assessments. Literacy Plus is designed to address significant gaps in reading skills by strengthening fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension strategies essential for success in grade-level coursework.This course provides students with structured opportunities to strengthen their foundational literacy skills, background knowledge, and academic vocabulary through engagement with a wide range of texts. Students will read and analyze short stories, novels, plays, poems, and informational texts that reflect diverse cultures, perspectives, and historical time periods. In addition, readings will draw from content areas such as history/social studies, science, and technical fields to help students make meaningful connections across disciplines.

Placement in the course is dependent on the students' reading success plans.
