Introduction to Data Acquisition and Management for GIST explores practical applications of advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) functions while introducing essential concepts in spatial analysis and data management. Through hands-on laboratory exercises using real-world data sets, students develop a solid understanding of fundamental GIS principles and techniques.

Course content focuses on quantitative GIS methods commonly used in planning, social sciences, and related fields. Topics include spatial statistical models, image processing, spatial interpolation, and techniques for acquiring, managing, and analyzing geographic data. Emphasis is placed on applying analytical methods to solve real-world problems and interpret spatial patterns.

This course builds on introductory GIS knowledge and strengthens students’ technical and analytical skills through applied, data-driven learning experiences.

Prerequisites for this course include successful completion of GIST-110. 

Corequisites for this course include enrollment in college statistics (MATH-130).

Students choosing to take the course for college credit must apply to Crowder College and enroll in the course through both Crowder College and the high school. Students are financially responsible for any course fees incurred for taking the course for college credit.
